Your scans, your privacy

Updated 10 September 2026.

Photos stay on your device

Barcode detection and label text recognition run in your browser. Boycott Scan does not upload or store the selected photo. The barcode or search words are sent through Boycott Scan to the Open Facts catalogues to find a product. Avoid including personal information in your search.

Services your browser contacts

Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, Open Pet Food Facts and Open Products Facts supply product records and images. Label recognition downloads its software and English and Thai language files from third-party content delivery networks. Those services and our hosting provider receive ordinary connection information such as your IP address. Their privacy policies also apply.

This release does not create a personal scan history or sell your scans. Hosting security services may use operational logs or cookies to protect the website. Closing or refreshing the page clears the selected product and photo from the interface.

MagicAds advertising

The top banner is served by MagicAds. Its service receives ordinary connection information, the page URL and referrer, and measures page visits, ad impressions and clicks using a browser-session identifier. It may store a dismissed-banner preference. Boycott Scan does not put photos, scanned barcodes or product search words in the page URL or deliberately send them to MagicAds. Advertising does not influence ownership or conflict assessments. Learn about the provider at MagicAds.

Read the Open Food Facts network privacy policy for details about product searches.
